Door open speed of 115

Fence gates are mostly identical to regular doors. They have the same material cost, amount of work, and cover as regular doors. The main differences are that fence gates open faster, but have much less HP, and let non-pen animals through. In areas where door HP and animals don't matter, such as the interior of a base, you should use fence gates.
They're better than doors at most aspects, at time of writing (needs to be checked on release):

* Same work and materials as doors

* Still designates rooms

* Still holds in temp

* Still holds prisoners

* Same 75% cover effectiveness

* Opens 18% faster than doors

Their main disadvantage is HP, as a wooden fence gate will have 13 HP, whilst a wooden door has 104 HP.
+
[[Autodoor]]s still open faster, so once you can afford them, use those where needed.

Fence gates provide entry points through rooms and fence structures.

Acquisition

The fence gate is constructed with Stuff 25 Stuff (Metallic/Woody/Stony, 250 for SMVs) and 500 ticks (8.33 secs) of work.

Summary

Fence gates are largely equivalent to doors, supporting roofs, enclosing rooms (including prisons), and containing temperature. Animals that are not pen animals can walk over fence gates, though humans must open the fence gate. Also, fence gates have a faster opening speed, at base 115% compared to a regular door's 100%.

Analysis

Fence gates are mostly identical to regular doors. They have the same material cost, amount of work, and cover as regular doors. The main differences are that fence gates open faster, but have much less HP, and let non-pen animals through. In areas where door HP and animals don't matter, such as the interior of a base, you should use fence gates.

Autodoors still open faster, so once you can afford them, use those where needed.
