• Since you realistically only ever want to make sharp weapons out of plasteel, steel or uranium, only those materials are considered.
• Melee hit chance can be ignored, since we look only at relative differences.

Conclusions

• Whether the longsword or spear has more DPS is dependant on:
  • Mostly the chosen material.
  • Somewhat the achieved quality.
  • Somewhat on the attacks available to the pawn. Default attacks: left fist, right fist, teeth, head. Changed by injuries and artificial body parts (e.g. bionic or archotech arms, elbow blades , knee spikes or venom fangs ).
• However, for materials you actually want to choose (plasteel, steel or uranium), the differences rarely reach 2%.

Conclusion: As for pure DPS there is no clear winner between longsword and spear.
