A few days ago I emailed Zesty and Tynan about the work on the wiki, and have also written on the forum, so figured I could post something here too. I've worked my ass off the last month or two with a wide range of things. I wanted to move things forward, redesign the frontpage, make new infobodes, convert to Cargo, and much else. Zero reaction to the email and post, which I kinda hoped for tbh. But it is what it is and I just don't have the time for all the work that is required, especially given the problems faced.

It may be best to just abort this whole thing before I sink in even more time. I'm back at work next week, sorting out all these things in the wiki will probably take months (brief overview in the forum wiki thread), and Cargo doesn't behave as it's supposed to. Tables don't update, yesterday several of them suddenly got all rows wiped, and in another one identical rows are getting stored, although there is supposed to be code in the extension itself that prevents that.

Job queue issue is rearing its head again. I copied all the relevant templates and pages to my localhost wiki and tested there. Tables at least get filled out then (and with no stalled jobs in the queue), but there is also the issue with row duplication. In the past null saving a page (edit->save page without any changes) has cleared up that. But it doesn't happen here. Either there will be no change, or another 100% copy or the row will get saved.

I'm frustrated, there is no feedback on the extension pages, and it's probably not a good idea to spend so much time on this. It's interesting in a way, or would be if it worked as it is supposed to, and would greatly benefit the wiki, but I have other priorities that are more important than this, and I should probably just focus on that instead.

Hopefully I can still contribute here, but it simply can't be on this level. I don't have the time nor energy for it, and there is a TON of stuff to do. I have to focus more on what is important in my life. If people want to pick up -- or wipe out everything for that matter -- there are a fair few pages in my user space, plus the user Vector.css. == Console Edition ==

Hi! A new platform for RimWorld has dropped and the wiki will need to adapt to help the now-expanded playerbase. Per the FAQ:

RimWorld (PC) is an ever-evolving game and we made the decision to branch off from that version of RimWorld, locking off content whilst we polish, improve and develop our own version. This means that whilst we are slightly out of sync with RimWorld (PC), we were able to focus on bug fixing, performance optimisations and fine tuning our experience for console players.

This implies that we're going to have some disparities between the PC and Console versions going forward. I'm hoping to get some feedback and ideas on how we should implement these. Assuming they remain relatively close in content, we could simply note the differences in the body, however some large disparities may require entirely new pages. Please let me know if you have any input on how these should be handled, especially if you have experience with other wikis handling the same issue.

We will also need player experience with the console edition. Our existing editor-base, myself included, will likely only have experience with the PC version so we'll need editors that use the console edition, new or old, are very much encouraged to contribute in areas where the two differ. Even something as little as noting a difference on a talk page, or putting it in #wiki-suggestions in the Unofficial RimWorld Discord will be a huge help.

We'll also need some minor things, such as a unique identifier for console content in a similar vein to RimworldIcon/RoyaltyIcon/IdeologyIcon to distinguish the PC and Console versions in the text of pages as well as banners like Template:Royalty and Template:Ideology to distinguish entire new pages. However, there isn't any branding unique to the console edition beyond the full banner. Perhaps something similar to the Fallout wiki's method of denoting platform would be good, or we might seek permission to use Double Eleven's logo. Again, feedback on this, or on any other minor issues you think might arise would also be great.

As always, I'm available on the discords or via my talk page. Feel free to hit me up with any issues.

Finally, welcome to the Rimworld to any new console players, whether you're a reader or an editor. Try not to get turned into a hat!

Category lists[edit]
