It can't realistically protect a pawn's brain from powerful gunshots, but it's much cheaper than power armor helmets that can, and still boasts full-face coverage. Anomaly's highly accessible resurrection ritual can absorb an occasional unlucky hit while the hood reduces most combat injuries.
