it's a tree that eats corpses. It can eat both rotten and fresh corpses. It is capable of eating twisted meat as well.

After eating enough, an additional tree will spawn nearby.

When cut down, it provides a small amount of twisted meat as well as wood.

Does not appear to be dangerous in any way.

Analysis

Harbinger trees provide a low-tech, no power method of getting rid of bodies without the use of fire or an Electric crematorium.

This is vital for tribal or low-tech settlements who want to reduce the number of potential Shamblers on the map during a Deathpall or similar events, as there is no limit to the number of times a corpse can be turned into a shambler. However, it is only effective as a preventive measure, as shamblers can break free from the roots when raised.

Eating the raw twisted meat provided by the tree does provide a -10 mood thought, however non-cannibal colonists eating raw human meat from corpses provides a -20 mood thought. Therefore, the tree can be used by non-cannibal colonies to recycle human meat into less-negative twisted meat by feeding it corpses if food is dire.

Later on, Harbinger Tree can be used as a means of acquiring twisted meat for some mid and late game recipes, like the Juggernaut serum, without having to call dangerous entities like Fleshbeasts.
