About this board

Harakoni (talkcontribs)

I can't get on the discord atm, but Khitrir lemme know that you object to my removal of your posts from the noticeboard.

I thought they were no longer relevant given we were no longer transitioning to Cargo. Didn't want people to think it was never checked if they did want to report issues.you are more than welcome to revert the Deletions

I see that you've been uploading quite a lot of images recently, and I'd like to ask: What are you planning to do with them?

Jakek1356 (talkcontribs)

I HATE YOU!

PigeonGuru (talkcontribs)

I see. Well, I did look at the edits that you did and that I reverted and I do have reasons why I did that.

For the storyteller one, we stick to purely vanilla or official DLC content, and usually don't add modded content unless it's on its own page. Since you said that it's from a mod I don't really have a choice.

For the human one I didn't revert it but moved it to the bottom as I couldn't really think of somewhere else to put it. If you figure out some good place to do so then feel free.

Did I miss anything?

I didn't think so!

I was thinking to add a small gallery to the pages, as there are usually three variants, at least for most animals and buildings. Then put them into infoboxes, if any are missing. Many of the images are slightly differently named now because I retained the "_east", but I figured that was better than overwriting a whole other pack of images, and it then retains the naming logic from the game files.

The main reason I've uploaded is that these are uncompressed images, though, directly from the game files. In many cases it's hard to see the difference visually, but 1kb vs 16 kb hardly matters, and it's nice to have them here.

Would be nice to have the coloured variants too, but the game itself probably does that part, and those images aren't in the game files any more, at least I couldn't find them. I see some old pictures have the colours (like for bears), so Tynan probably changed this aspect during development.

Now that the license has been cleared up, I am also thinking about drafting changes to the frontpage in my user space -- if that is something that might be agreeable. Not sure if userspace .js is allowed here, but maybe it doesn't matter too much. What I'd like to try out is a flexible approach, which is basically the standard on a bunch of Gamepedia wikis (a wikifarm for games). It means the frontpage is made up of a few sub-pages, which are placed on the frontpage depending on the screenwidth of the user. That's where .js comes in. To see how it works, you can try with different browser widths on e.g. [1]. Maybe a two-column approach would make more sense here, though, which is what they used on the Witcher 3 wiki.

What I'd really like is to look into the templates and change some things, but it's so darn hard to wrap my head around it all. So much chaining and I lose track of it all. Wikitext in templates is hard enough as it is, with all the nested ifs and whatnot

I've written a bunch of templates for other wikis, so can hopefully re-use some of that -- but I don't have much experience with Semantic MediaWiki, and certainly don't want to mess up anything. Therefore I haven't dared to try to edit anything yet (except import and adapt a few small new ones).

Of course, if you don't like this or have other ideas, I'm all ears. I'm just trying to improve mattersĀ :)

Stuff like this would be nice to discuss on an Admin noticeboard instead, but apparently there isn't one for this wiki. Might be easier for more people to offer input then, instead of separately on yours, mine or Zesty's user pages. Are some of the other mods somewhat active? Probably on vacation now :P

(Sorry that this got longer than intended).

Hello admin or moderator! I wanted to thank you for keeping this wiki alive and well!

While I'm a new person when it comes to editing this wiki, I thought that for more real time talk and chatter when it comes to the wiki itself might be extremely beneficial for everyone. So in that case I have created the Rimworld Wiki Discord Server. Over the next week or so, I will be adding custom bots, commands, and functionality in this server to make our job as contributors easier and more efficient. (Link for the Discord Server is on the main page, the community portal, and my profile page as well)

As soon as you come into the server, please DM me or tag me in general chat so I can add your appropriate Role as an Admin or Moderator.

Just to make sure that all the Admins/Moderators get this message (and I really hate to do this) I'm going to copy and paste this message on all the staff's talk pages. Again, sorry for copy and pasting but I want to make sure that you all get a notification ping on the wiki.

Keep doing all the good work! You guys are awesome! Let's keep updating and pushing hard to get this wiki up to date!

Thanks, DJRedNight#3428

Hi. I'm interested in doing some anti-vandalism work around here.
