Plants

Agarilux a.png

An enormous purple mushroom. Its size and glowing protrusions make this fungus beautiful to look at. It dies when exposed to light.

Agave a.png

A large-leafed desert plant with edible flowers and stalks.

Agave is a plant that naturally occurs in arid shrublands, deserts, and extreme deserts. As with any other bush-type plant, agave's growth progress goes back to 30% when harvested, and agave can't be grown by the player. A mature agave plant yields 10 pieces of agave fruit.

Alocasia a.png

A tropical plant. Its extremely broad leaves are a commonly-recognized signifier of tropical forests.

Ambrosia bush.png

A rare wild bush which yields the ambrosia fruit. Ambrosia fruit is delicious and produces a drug-like mood boost. Ambrosia cannot be farmed, which makes wild ambrosia groves very valuable.
Its rarity, beauty, and desirability are why ambrosia was named after the food of the ancient Greek gods.

Ambrosia bushes are an exotic plant in RimWorld which only naturally occur through the ambrosia sprout event, and therefore can't be grown by the player. A mature ambrosia bush yields Ambrosia 4 ambrosia.

Anima grass a.png

A grass infused with luminous microorganisms. Tribal peoples find that anima grass grows around the base of an anima tree as they meditate. It seems to reflect some kind of strengthening of the tree's psychic power.
Offworld scientists have tried to study the phenomenon, but the grass degenerates into normal plant matter when observed too closely.
Animals refuse eat[sic] anima grass. Tribal stories say this is done out of respect and fear.

Anima tree a.png

A rare tree with warm, skin-smooth bark and long iridescent leaves. Infused with bioluminescent micro-organisms, anima trees develop a unique form of psychic symbiosis with surrounding lifeforms, allowing them to grow in a wide variety of biomes.
If a person (psycaster or not) meditates near an anima tree, it will grow anima grass around its base. Once enough grass is grown, it becomes possible to carry out a psychic linking ritual with the tree and upgrade a person's psychic powers. Only tribal peoples know the secret of this ritual. Tribal psycasters are also able to draw psyfocus from anima trees while meditating to them.
Anima trees' psychic properties are weakened if artificial structures are placed nearby. They refuse to be caged or studied, and must remain part of nature.
Most tribes believe that anima trees are not simply trees, but are rather the physical extremities of a single world spirit.

Astragalus b.png

A small perennial wildflower that grows in alpine climates.

Bamboo tree.png

A fast-growing tree-like plant that grows in dense groves. Bamboo can be harvested for a wood-like material. The plant itself is not beautiful.

Berry bush.png

A bushy wild plant which yields delicious berries. Berries can be cooked, but they're also good to eat even when raw.

Berry bushes are a wild plant that naturally occurs in temperate forests, temperate swamps, tropical rainforests, tropical swamps, arid shrublands, boreal forests, cold bogs, and tundra. As with any other bush-type plant, berry bush's growth progress goes back to 30% when harvested, and they can't be grown by the player. A mature berry bush yields 10 berries.

Birch tree.png

A temperate-biome tree known for its thin, white, paper-like bark.

Birch trees are trees that naturally occur in boreal forests and tundras. Birch trees can also be grown by the player in any biome, but can't be sown in hydroponics. A mature birch tree yields 30 wood.

Bonsai tree.png

A small tree, pruned and shaped to look visually pleasing.

Brambles a.png

Tangled, thorny, woody shoots covered with leaves. Brambles grow in clusters, and slow down anyone moving over them.

Bryolux a.png

A blue moss typically found in deep, dark caves. It is sticky, with tangled fibers, which slows anyone walking over it. Dies when exposed to light.

Burned tree b.png

A burned tree stump. It's ugly and yields very little usable wood.

Bush a.png

A short shrub. Does not typically talk.

Cecropia tree.png

One of the most common rainforest trees. Cecropia grows very fast, but yields little usable wood.

Cecropia trees are a plant that only naturally occurs in tropical rainforests. Cecropia trees can also be grown by the player in any biome, but can't be sown in hydroponics. A mature cecropia tree yields 20 wood.

Chokevine a.png

Tangled masses of cord-like, spiky vines which coil in great masses along the ground. Chokevine greatly slows down anyone who moves over it. Multiple tribes have independently generated stories of chokevine strangling children to death in the night, as a way to scare kids into coming home before dark.

Stump chopped a.png

A stump left behind after a tree has been felled. The stump can be extracted but yields very little usable wood. Left outdoors, the stump will deteriorate in time.

Clivia a.png

An unusual plant with tall, pretty flowers. Some call it the 'bush lily'.

Cocoa tree.png

A tropical tree that produces chocolate, genetically engineered to sweeten its own product, and survive in slightly less-warm climates.

Corn plant a.png

A tall grain plant which produces ears of soft, edible seeds. While corn takes a long time to grow, it yields lots of food compared to other crops. Harvested corn takes a long time to spoil.

Cotton plant a.png

A mid-size crop that yields fine white cotton fibers. These are used to make cloth.

The cotton plant is a player-growable production crop with a moderate yield and slightly longer growing cycle. A mature cotton plant yields 10 cloth.

Tree cypress a.png

A tall coniferous tree often found in swamps. Despite its slow growth, planting these trees can be profitable as a low-effort, long-term investment because they yield so much usable wood.

Dandelion a.png

A tiny yellow flower which grows in large clusters. Though it is often considered a weed, dandelions in bloom are quite beautiful.

Daylily a.png

A cultivated flower with wide petals and a short lifespan. Daylilies are very beautiful, but must be replanted often.

Devilstrand mushroom a.png

This fragile mushroom was genetically engineered to produce a silk net that is both difficult to tear and soft to the touch. While the mushroom takes a very long time to grow, only exotic ultra-tech fabrics outperform its devilstrand fibers.
Some say it's called devilstrand because of its red color. Others think it owes its name to the greed it inspires in people.

Devilstrand mushroom is a player-growable production crop with a low yield, and very long growing cycle. Can't be sown in hydroponics, and is entirely immune to blight. Mature devilstrand yields 6 devilstrand.

Drago tree.png

A hardy desert tree topped with thick, pointed leaves.

Fibercorn.png

An inedible, fibrous plant which produces a small amount of a wood-like substance.

Gauranlen moss.png

Symbiotic moss that grows near Gauranlen trees.

GauranlenPodA.png

A small pod that protects a single Gauranlen seed. This seed can be harvested and used to plant a Gauranlen tree.

Gauranlen tree.png

A large, distinctive-looking tree with a unique life-cycle. Each Gauranlen tree contains a small non-conscious dryad queen. The queen births creatures called dryads which guard and tend the tree. In exchange, the tree nurtures its protectors by feeding them directly. From the outside, it appears the dryads are created by the tree directly and act as part of it.
It is possible for a person to form a connection with a Gauranlen tree and partially control the dryads it produces.
Some say Gauranlen trees are the homes of nature spirits that follow humanity across worlds.

Rafflesia.png

A rare, giant flower which can be found deep in steaming jungles. You would think a giant flower would be beautiful, but this one looks and smells like rotting flesh.

Glowstool a.png

A small brown mushroom typically found in caves. It smells like an old, dirty rag pulled from the stomach of a rotting muffalo - but it tastes surprisingly good when cooked. Dies when exposed to light.

Grass a.png

Wild grass. Grows anywhere there is a little light and minimally fertile ground.

TreeGrayPineA.png

A small toxin-adapted tree with twisted branches. It can only grow on polluted terrain, and yields a meager amount of wood when harvested.

Haygrass.png

A mixture of nutrient-rich grasses which yield large amounts of hay. Hay is edible for animals, but not humans.

Haygrass is a player-growable food crop that is normally inedible for humans, but with a high yield. Haygrass can't be sown in hydroponics. Mature haygrass yields 18 hay.

Healroot.png

A slow-growing plant which yields herbal medicine when harvested. Sowing and harvesting healroot are both very labor-intensive tasks because of its delicate shoots.
Healroot was selectively bred for centuries by settlers. It is sometimes also called "healer's hand" by tribespeople - a nickname it owes to its five major medicinal virtues.

Healroot is a plant that can be sown in growing zones or hydroponics basins and yields herbal medicine.

Hop plant.png

A flowering crop that yields hops, an essential ingredient in beer.

A plant that when harvested, yields hops that can then be used to produce beer. Hop plants can be planted in a growing zone or a hydroponics basin.

Shrub low a.png

Various low broadleaf shrubs. These grow in clusters and slow down movement.

Tree maple a.png

A common medium-sized tree, easily identifiable by its distinct three-pointed leaf.

Moss a.png

Wild moss that grows in clumps in areas of low light and cool temperatures. Moss takes a long time to grow, but is very frost-resistant.

Nutrifungus.png

A meaty bioengineered mushroom grown for its nutritious value. It can grow on fungal gravel, but only in darkness - exposing it to any kind of light, including darklights, will kill it.

Tree oak a.png

A hardwood tree. Oaks take a long time to grow, but their wood is so strong that 'oak' is used as a metaphor for strength across many cultures.

Oak trees are a plant that naturally occurs in temperate forests. Oak trees can also be grown by the player that biome, but can't be sown in hydroponics. A mature oak tree yields 50 wood.

Palm tree.png

A tropical tree with a tall, naked trunk topped by a cluster of very broad leaves. Unfortunately, this variety doesn't produce any edible coconuts.

Pebble Cactus a.png

A small cactus that resembles a cluster of pebbles. It can only grow on polluted terrain. It yields a meager amount of woody fiber when harvested.

Pincushion cactus.png

A short cactus. It is so named because it resembles a pincushion.

Pine tree.png

A large conifer covered with prickly pine cones. It grows in a distinctive conical shape.

Pine trees are a plant that naturally occur in boreal forests and tundra. Pine trees can also be grown by the player in those biomes, but can't be sown in hydroponics. A mature pine tree yields 30 wood.

PoluxTreeB.png

After generations of exposure, these trees have evolved to metabolize pollutants. By drawing pollutants from the ground through wide root networks, they slowly clean polluted terrain in their vicinity. However, they cannot do this if buildings are constructed over their roots.
Unlike most methods of cleaning polluted terrain, polux trees do not create toxic wastepacks.

Poplar tree.png

A softwood tree that grows very fast. Unfortunately, its wood is weak and so it yields less useful material than hardwood trees.

Poplar trees are a tree that naturally occurs in boreal and temperate forests. Poplar trees can also be grown by the player in those biomes, but can't be sown in hydroponics. A mature poplar tree yields 27 wood.

Potato plant.png

A highly nutritious tuber. Potatoes grow well even in somewhat poor soil, and form a delicious crispy outer coating when fried in oil.
