Ground-penetrating scanner

Ground-penetrating scanner

A downward-facing penetrating radar, combined with sonar and magnetic imagers, allows you to detect (but not identify) minerals buried deep under the surface. Requires a huge amount of electricity.

A ground-penetrating scanner detects and illuminates underground deposits of resources (when selected), either jade or metals. Extracting materials from these deposits requires a deep drill. Only one scanner is needed to locate all deposits on the map. The scanner must be researched before it becomes available. It must be connected to power to function. A scanner is one of the most power-hungry devices. It can be turned off when not needed, to conserve power.

Version history

In Beta 19 its power usage was significantly reduced from 1500W to 800W. Its build cost was also changed, previously costing 400 steel and 12 components.

In 1.1 it was reworked. Instead of showing all minerals on the map instantly, it can be worked at by a pawn, who will periodically find new mineral patches. This also means that maps will no longer run out of deep mineral deposits.
