(Help 2) Apparently there's no reply button or 'Start a new discussion' button until I make enough edits as well. Thanks anyways.

You can create pages after you've made enough edits, I think 10 edits.

To reply to a message go to your Messages page (also called your Talk page) and in the gray box where the message is, click the Reply button, write your response there, and click Save.

To send a message to someone go to their talk page and click 'Start a new discussion'. Write what you will, then click Save page. It seems you got very close to doing just that (but did 'edit' instead of Start new discussion). If it actually prevented you from doing that then after enough regular edits it won't hinder you anymore.
